NEET Paper Analysis of Last 10 years for Chemistry
NEET Exam, conducted by CBSE was introduced in lieu of the various state level and national level medical entrance exams. It will be conducted for admission into MBBS/BDS courses this year as well.
The number of questions and the difficulty level varies for every section. This article provides you an analysis of the Chemistry section as observed in the question papers of last 10 years.
Chemistry Trend Analysis for NEET
Chemistry is considered as a moderately difficult section in the exam. For 10 years, the maximum number of questions in chemistry sections were from Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure (39 questions) followed by Hydrocarbons (37 questions). Apart from these, Equilibrium and p-block elements also carry a lot of weightage with 35 and 34 questions respectively.
The preparation must include quick revision of these topics from the NCERT textbooks or reference books. Candidates are advised to refer to books with good explanations of the basic concepts. Candidates can prepare for these topics by solving online mock tests as well.
Percentage Distribution of Questions
Candidates are questioned from chapters and topics studied in class XI and XII. Topics from Class XI carry lesser weightage than the topics of Class XII. Thus, the candidates should focus more on the topics from Class XII syllabus. There are a large number of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions from various important topics of class XII such as p-block elements, Solutions, Aldehydes, Ketones and carboxylic acids.
Important Topics for Chemistry in NEET
Over the last 10 years, a wide range of conceptual and numerical questions have been asked from the following topics. Post analyzing the number of questions from each topic in the past 10 years, we have compiled a list of the important topics that require more hard work and attention as compared to the other topics:

Though the number of questions has decreased, the difficulty level has increased over the years. Paper analysis has shown that candidates can expect various questions on Dipole moment, VSEPR theory, Hybridization and Valence Bond Theory.
Hydrocarbons
This topic from organic chemistry includes a large number of conceptual questions in the NEET exam. Candidates must have complete knowledge of the basic concepts to score well in this section. Tp prepare for this topic, candidates must plan a thorough revision and rigorous practice of various concept based questions.
Equilibrium
This is another important topic in the Chemistry paper of NEET from the XI syllabus. This chapter is the source of several numerical questions in the exam. As per the analysis, questions from this topic are of moderate difficulty level. The number of questions has not changed much in the last 10 years.
P-Block Elements
There have been a total of 34 questions from this chapter in the exam. Since it is a topic from inorganic chemistry, there are several questions based on the fundamental concepts. Candidates must memorize the reactions given in NCERT Books as questions are mostly based on the same.
Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
The number of questions from this chapter has also not changed much in the past decade. It is one of the most important chapters of Organic Chemistry since it carries a lot of weightage. The important topics from this chapter include nomenclature, preparation and reactions of carboxylic acids with other compounds. The questions asked range from moderate to high difficulty level.
